Build A Blanket Chest
Instructor: Mario Rodriguez
9:00-4:00pm (day)
Class Size: 10 maximum

This is a great project for practicing your machine techniques, honing your dovetail cutting skills, and learning how to set a chest lock and hinges. Start by milling, squaring, and cutting your material on shop machinery before turning to hand tools for cutting the dovetails and mounting hardware. The design of the box is based on an 1815 South Carolina chest, made of pine, with hardwood for the breadboard ends on the top, and the base. Inside the box is a till with a secret compartment. The lid of the till also serves to hold open the box top. The completed piece will be suitable for finishing with milk paint for a true period treatment.

Note: The dovetail workshop is a recommended prerequisite for this course. Tuition: $700, including materials.
