Building a Windsor chair involves diverse skills and techniques. Mastering these skills and completing a chair can sometimes be difficult. This simplified and forgiving design will allow students to build a beautiful and comfortable chair while eliminating some of the problems and pitfalls of a more traditional design.
This workshop still exposes students to all the traditional techniques, only at a simpler, easier level. The class will steam bend the comb, carve out the seat, turn spindles and undercarriage parts, then assemble their chair.
The result is a chair that will put you on the track to building a more complex chair, equipped with experience, skill, and confidence.
Note that this class is taught in two separate sessions, to allow the student to sand and gage the parts, with the second session devoted to final assembly.
