The seat blank having been tentatively chosen, attention is now turned to the leg stock. If a leg is basically square in section, then using rift sawn stock, with the growth rings running corner to corner, will yield a leg where the appearance on contiguous faces is similar. Were it otherwise, then the appearance on meeting faces would be quite different and could be distracting to the overall look and feel. The sapwood will be removed during the next operation.
