4-Week Woodworking Intensive

March 10 - April 3, 2025 - Monday through Thursday, 9:00 - 4:00 for 4 weeks (4 days a week)
The 4-week Intensive is designed for the aspiring furniture maker and woodworker whose goal is to develop work that showcases personal expression and is characterized by technical excellence. Borrowing from the teachings of his mentor James Krenov, his experience at the College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program and his twenty-five years as a studio craftsman, Craig has developed a curriculum that reflects his approach to the art and craft of designing and building “one of a kind” furniture.
The Intensive is ideal for self-motivated people that have a passion for woodworking, fine craftsmanship, and a strong desire to learn. Throughout the program, students receive a great deal of attention and individual instruction. Craig teaches a process of working that is deeply entwined with design, creativity, and the highly skilled hand.
The course is focused on the essential fundamentals of furniture making including;
- vocabulary of woodworking
- machine safety
- wood as a medium with particular attention to the use of wood grain as it affects the balance and aesthetics of woodworking projects
- milling lumber
- sensitive use of cabinetmaking hand-tools, such as planes, saws, chisels, spokeshaves, and layout tools.
- sharpening plane irons, chisels, knives and scrapers
- classic techniques of cabinetmaking and joinery including:
- mortise and tenon
- wedged through tenons
- frame and panel construction/bridle joint
- edge joining with hand planes
- hand-cut dovetail joinery
- shellac and oil finishing techniques
- design considerations:
- practice basic drawing skills and learn to explore ideas on paper
- perspective drawing
Bench space is limited to 6 students, each occupying a pair of workbenches. The class will run with a minimum of 4 students. Registration will cut off 2 weeks before class begins (2/24/25). Full refunds will be issued In the event that the class doesn’t reach the minimum number of registrations.
Tuition - $2400
Tuition covers wood, practice materials and common consumables such as glue, sandpaper, and fasteners.
